Imagine getting a chance to own a piece of an airline, a cable car company, a five-star hotel, or a hydropower project, all by just filling out an IPO form. That chance might be closer than you think. Right now, 104 companies are standing in line at the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), each one waiting for permission to sell shares to the general public. Together, they are looking to raise a massive Rs. 69 Arba 30 Crore from ordinary investors like you.
That is not a small number. To put it simply, these companies want to collect around 47 Crore 28 Lakh 90 Thousand shares worth of public money. From cement giants to micro-insurance startups, the list covers nearly every industry you can think of.
But here is the catch. SEBON has been without a permanent chairperson for almost two months now. After the previous chairman, Santosh Narayan Shrestha, stepped down, the post has remained empty. That has slowed down the IPO approval process, and many companies are still waiting.
Manufacturing and Processing: The Biggest Slice
The largest chunk of the total IPO fund target comes from the manufacturing and processing sector. A total of 30 companies in this group are aiming to raise Rs. 35 Arba 35 Crore by issuing over 16 Crore 64 Lakh shares.
Eight of these companies are offering shares at a premium, meaning investors will pay more than the face value of Rs. 100 per share. The highest premium belongs to Maruti Cements Ltd., which is asking Rs. 426 per share.
The biggest single IPO in this sector, and arguably in the entire list, is from Jagdamba Steels Limited. The company plans to issue 2 Crore 7 Lakh shares at a premium of Rs. 330 per share, which means it wants to collect Rs. 6 Arba 62 Crore in one go. That would make it one of the largest IPOs ever proposed in Nepal.
Other large names in this group include Shaurya Cement (Rs. 53.21 Arba issue size), Riddhisiddhi Cement (Rs. 29.94 Arba at a premium of Rs. 246), and Ambe Steels (Rs. 33.91 Arba at a premium of Rs. 303).
Hydropower: The Longest Queue
No sector has more companies waiting than hydropower. A total of 34 hydropower companies have applied to raise a combined Rs. 17 Arba 50 Crore through 17 Crore 14 Lakh 80 Thousand shares.
The biggest name here is Siuri Nyadi Power Limited, which is building a 40.27 MW run-of-the-river hydropower project in Lamjung. The company wants to issue 3 Crore 2 Lakh 60 Thousand shares to raise Rs. 3 Arba 3 Crore, making it the largest hydropower IPO on the list.
Other notable hydropower companies include Raghuganga Hydropower Limited (Rs. 15 Arba), United Mewa Khola Hydropower Limited (Rs. 12.30 Arba), and Mewa Developers Limited (Rs. 11.20 Arba). Many of these companies applied two or three years ago and have since updated their documents or increased their issue sizes.
Hotels and Tourism: Airlines, Cable Cars, and Resorts
The hotels and tourism sector has 18 companies in the pipeline, including two cable car companies and one airline. Together, they want to issue 5 Crore 82 Lakh 10 Thousand shares and raise Rs. 6 Arba 45 Crore.
The biggest IPO in this group is from Shree Airlines Limited. The airline is offering 63 Lakh shares at a premium of Rs. 200 per share, targeting a total collection of Rs. 1 Arba 26 Crore. Other names to watch include Hotel Sabrina Limited, Budhanilkantha Heritage Limited, and Annapurana Cable Car Limited.
Others: Media, Hospitals, Helicopters, and Solar
The “Others” category is quite mixed. It includes 14 companies from sectors like media, healthcare, helicopter services, solar energy, and hire purchase. Their combined target is Rs. 5 Arba 90 Crore through 4 Crore 86 Lakh 20 Thousand shares.
The standout here is Dish Media Network Ltd., which wants to issue nearly 2 Crore shares at a face value of Rs. 100, raising Rs. 1 Arba 97 Crore. Other companies in this group include Prabhu Helicopter Limited, HAMS Hospital, and Hulas Finserv Hire Purchase Limited, which is offering shares at a premium of Rs. 358.85.
Investment Companies and Micro-Insurance
Five investment companies have collectively applied to raise Rs. 3 Arba 41 Crore. The largest among them is Shivam Holdings Limited, aiming to collect Rs. 2 Arba 43 Crore by selling 1 Crore 16 Lakh shares at Rs. 210 per share.
Three micro-insurance companies, namely Protective Micro Insurance Limited, Star Micro Insurance Company Limited, and Liberty Micro Life Insurance, are also waiting for approval. Each is planning to offer 22 Lakh 50 Thousand shares at Rs. 100 face value, for a combined total of Rs. 67 Crore 50 Lakh.
What This Means for Investors
Being on SEBON’s IPO application list does not automatically mean a company is approved. Every company still has to meet all legal and financial requirements before their IPO actually opens. Some companies on this list applied years ago and are still going through the review process.
With SEBON currently without a permanent chairman, things may move slower than usual. But once leadership is restored, this backlog of 104 companies could start getting cleared, and investors might see multiple IPOs opening in quick succession.
It is always a good idea to read the company’s prospectus carefully before applying. Check the financials, understand the business, and invest only what you can afford. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) can be rewarding, but informed decisions always work better than blind ones.
