Government Publishes Official List of Approved Educational Consultancy to Prevent Fraud

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has asked students who want to study abroad to use only education consultancies that have renewed their licences for the fiscal year 2025/26.

As per the list only 760 consultancies have officially renewed their licences. The updated list was approved on May 20 by Ministry Secretary Chudamani Poudel and published on the ministry’s website.

The government has also increased action against consultancies operating illegally or cheating students with fake promises and forged documents. The action is being taken under the Educational Counseling Services and Language Teaching Directives-2016.

On May 15, Nepal Police carried out inspections and raids in different parts of Kathmandu Valley. Police are preparing legal action against 32 people detained for allegedly running unauthorized consultancy businesses.

According to authorities, some consultancies were involved in submitting fake information for foreign study applications, using forged government seals and documents, and operating without registration.

The ministry said it will soon launch a nationwide campaign with Nepal Police to improve and regulate the consultancy sector.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Education Consultancy Entrepreneurs of Nepal said it supports the government’s action against illegal operators. However, it also asked the government not to create fear among legally operating consultancies.
